CS#37: Tim Staples Catholic Apologetics Lessons

If you ever want to get excited about  being catholic and learn a lot in the process, then you want to listen to Tim Staples, one of the top apologists at Catholic Answers.  Tim has an incredible conversion story about how he went from Southern Baptist to Catholic, and he is an absolute fireball of information about the faith. Tim talks about his new tapes on understanding Mary and and the Saints, and how to defend these Catholic Doctrines from Protestant attacks.  And Tim makes sure that you won’t be paralyzed by big words like hypostatic union by breaking them down and explaining exactly what they mean and why we use them in discussing the teachings of the church.  Don’t be fooled, exact words and exact definitions are very important in understanding church teachings since a wrong understanding about one word can lead to major doctrinal misunderstandings of other things.

Tim also Talks about the Catholic Answers Apologetics Cruise to Alaska this summer.    Cruisers will experience the wonders of Alaska as well as daily mass and talks from the talented apologists Tim Staples, Jimmy Akin, Mark Shea, and Jim Blackburn. This is one cruise you won’t want to miss.

Also, fans of apologetics should check out The Catholic Hack Podcast by Joe McClean.

CS#21: Jeff Cavins And Dr. Tim Gray Talk About Adventures In Matthew And Exodus

In this interview, Jeff Cavins and Dr. Tim Gray Talk about Adventures in Matthew and Adventures in Exodus from the Great Adventure through the Bible series.  This episode was inspired by listener feedback asking for more info on the Adventures in Matthew.  The listener noted that next year’s readings are from cycle A, which focuses primarily on the Gospel of Matthew, and they wanted to have a good bible study to go along with the readings for the year.  Thank you for the feedback, and I apologize for loosing the message or I would have played it as part of the show.  Jeff and Tim talk about Matthew being the teaching gospel and the catechism for the early church.  They discuss how Matthew points to Jesus as the new Moses and the heir to the Davidic Kingdom.  After the break, we learn about how Jeff and Tim started working together, and speculate about if they have any good road stories.  Finally, Tim and Jeff talk about Adventures in Exodus and why they chose to explore Exodus next in the series.

Jeff Cavins has been a protestant pastor, Catholic apologist, author, radio host, and TV host.  He is currently working on the Great Adventure though the Bible series, which is probably the most popular catholic scripture study available today.  Find Jeff’s blog at www.jeffcavins.com.

Dr. Tim Gray is Professor of Sacred Scripture at St. John Vianney Theological Seminary and at the Augustine Institute, a dynamic new MA program in Scripture and Evangelization in Denver. He holds a PhD in Biblical Studies from Catholic University of America. Dr. Gray’s dissertation The Temple in the Gospel of Mark: A Study in its Narrative Role is forthcoming from Mohr Siebeck. He is author of The Luminous Mysteries, Sacraments in Scripture and Mission of the Messiah. Dr. Gray is a partner with Jeff Cavins in The Great Adventure Bible Timeline series, the fastest growing Catholic Bible study program. A nationally renowned speaker, Dr. Gray has filmed numerous series for EWTN.
