Ann Ball – We Will Miss You

In the world of Catholic authors which is typically dominated by theologians and scholars, Ann Ball stood out as a unique character.  She had the unique distinction of being hardened, gun toting security guard manager by day–and prolific writer about the saints and Catholic tradition at night.  As a school teacher, she had a passion for bringing the real faces of saints to her students to let them see that these saints did not look much different than the rest of us.  That passion continued inter her later life as she wrote many books on modern saints which were strewn with pictures of the real saints as they were.  Her website at is filled with them as well, and it is somehow appropriate that her picture now rests with them as she herself goes to join them.  Her writings, will of course, stay with us.

I was lucky enough to take part in one of Ann Ball’s last interviews this past January, and she was, as always, full of lots of color.  I hope you enjoy listening to her as much as I have enjoyed talking with her and reading her books.

One Response to Ann Ball – We Will Miss You

  1. Chris,
That interview you did with Ann remains one of my favorite episodes of your show. The two of you had a great conversation and Ann’s spirituality and her humor really shown through. I’m sad that I was never able to interview Ann, but am thankful that you did such a great job of it! My prayers go out to her family and for the repose of Ann’s soul.
