In this interview, Jeff Cavins and Dr. Tim Gray Talk about Adventures in Matthew and Adventures in Exodus from the Great Adventure through the Bible series.  This episode was inspired by listener feedback asking for more info on the Adventures in Matthew.  The listener noted that next year’s readings are from cycle A, which focuses primarily on the Gospel of Matthew, and they wanted to have a good bible study to go along with the readings for the year.  Thank you for the feedback, and I apologize for loosing the message or I would have played it as part of the show.  Jeff and Tim talk about Matthew being the teaching gospel and the catechism for the early church.  They discuss how Matthew points to Jesus as the new Moses and the heir to the Davidic Kingdom.  After the break, we learn about how Jeff and Tim started working together, and speculate about if they have any good road stories.  Finally, Tim and Jeff talk about Adventures in Exodus and why they chose to explore Exodus next in the series.

Jeff Cavins has been a protestant pastor, Catholic apologist, author, radio host, and TV host.  He is currently working on the Great Adventure though the Bible series, which is probably the most popular catholic scripture study available today.  Find Jeff’s blog at www.jeffcavins.com.

Dr. Tim Gray is Professor of Sacred Scripture at St. John Vianney Theological Seminary and at the Augustine Institute, a dynamic new MA program in Scripture and Evangelization in Denver. He holds a PhD in Biblical Studies from Catholic University of America. Dr. Gray’s dissertation The Temple in the Gospel of Mark: A Study in its Narrative Role is forthcoming from Mohr Siebeck. He is author of The Luminous Mysteries, Sacraments in Scripture and Mission of the Messiah. Dr. Gray is a partner with Jeff Cavins in The Great Adventure Bible Timeline series, the fastest growing Catholic Bible study program. A nationally renowned speaker, Dr. Gray has filmed numerous series for EWTN.

  1. [...] A few weeks ago I was on Catholic Spotlight being interviewed by the host Chris Cash for the Great Adventure Bible study, Adventures in Revelation.  For those of you who are unfamiliar with Catholic Spotlight, it is a digital media program that is dedicated to bringing some of the best Catholic authors and speakers  to a larger audience via the technology of the podcast.  After the interview for the study on Revelation, I received a call from the host informing me that a very intuitive listener, with next year’s liturgical  Gospel readings in mind, was interested in hearing more about Adventures in Matthew.  And, better yet, the host wanted to tie  Adventures in Exodus, our latest study, and an interview with one of today’s most exciting Biblical scholars, Dr. Tim Gray together.  So without hesitation I jumped at the chance to not only share the fruits that come from Adventures in Matthew, but to share the mic with my good friend and colleague, Dr. Gray.  If you would like to hear the interview, simply click here.
